Creative Thinking for More Inclusive Mobility

Reshaping the approach

Modacity Creative is an independent consultancy that bridges the gap between creative thinking and behaviour change to develop projects with a positive social impact. Through storytelling and narrative building, inspiration sessions and presentations, and interactive workshops and training, we help organisations and partners realise a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable mobility future.

Our approach to any project focuses on encouraging advocates, professionals and leaders to think differently about the people who make up their communities, and then working collaboratively to develop mobility solutions and public spaces that are welcoming to all ages, abilities, genders, and backgrounds; reflecting the uniqueness of the diverse people who make up our society.

Who we are

Melissa Bruntlett

Equitable Mobility Expert

I have been working as an advocate and strategic advisor for better walking, cycling, and public spaces since 2010. Bringing together my experience in communications and engagement, I use the power of a good narrative and storytelling to shift to more sustainable and healthy communities.

Global travel combined with lived experiences in North America and Europe help me to translate international best practices to local contexts. The potential to learn from each other is immense. Sharing the stories of success, lessons learned, and how to adapt and evolve these ideas is a positive step towards more people enjoying spaces that improve our mental, physical, social, and financial well-being.

As the co-author of Building the Cycling City: The Dutch Blueprint for Urban Vitality and Curbing Traffic: The Human Case for Fewer Cars in Our Lives, and Women Changing Cities: Global stories of urban transformation, alongside speaking, digital content creation, and communications and engagement projects, I always emphasize the human stories that underpin innovation and change.

My focus is on helping people understand how a just mobility transition starts from a place of empathy, recognising that people’s transport needs are diverse, and behaviour change is only possible when we first understand why people make the mobility choices they do. How we feel when moving through our communities influences our behaviour, and the better decision-makers, designers, and policy-makers can understand this, the more equitable the solutions we create will be.

Let’s think creatively together!

Storytelling and the art of crafting a good narrative

Inspiring behaviour change starts with telling a good story. Modacity Creative works with you to develop content and campaigns with clear narratives that communicate your vision, goals, and the positive impact you are aiming to create. There are many tools available to get your core message out, and we work collaboratively with you to understand what you want people to understand about your project, who you want to reach, and how best to communicate that message with them.

Each project is unique to your needs. We will help you realise it through some of the following ways:

  • Photo of video campaigns
  • Thematic editorial / blog content development
  • Communications and engagement strategies
  • Narrative development co-creation sessions
  • Social media strategies

Speaking and Moderation

Sometimes the best ideas are generated by thinking about things in a new way. As an experienced public speaker, moderator, and facilitator, Melissa helps bring the message of why a sustainable and equitable mobility transition is important, who will benefit from it, and how it can be realised. Working together, she provides keynote or plenary presentations for your conference, symposium, webinar, or other type of event designed to support your goals and messaging.

Do you need someone to help facilitate your event as a host? With your input we craft event programmes that flow well and keep audiences energized and engaged. As host and MC, Melissa ensures contributors have a clear understanding of their role, help craft scripts and show runs that support your overall needs and goals, and work with you to ensure your event is a success.

Workshops and Training

Learning is a lifelong process. As our world continues to change, so too do the solutions necessary to inspire equitable transport and changing our mobility behaviours. Successful sustainable transport solutions require a balanced combination of technical details, policy development, and a people-centric approach. Modacity Creative provides workshops and training sessions that examine the human experience of mobility from a spectrum of needs and help practitioners understand how these needs are connected to the technical and policy-driven solutions that lead to outcomes that have a positive impact on how all people move.

Through inspiration sessions, co-creation and behaviour change workshops, we help participants reimagine how our streets and public spaces can be used. We then ask them to look at these spaces and the people who use them through an empathetic lens using a series of tools to help shift their perception. In this way, we begin to generate understanding of how our differences influence our behaviour, working together to co-create ideas and projects that will support a more equitable mobility solution.
